The committee of Eccles RA has decided to cancel our January meeting where Martin Atkinson was due to be our guest speaker due to the poor weather conditions making travelling to the venue potentially unsafe.
Given the treacherous conditions experienced recently, and the poor forecast over the coming days, it was felt that the safety of members and guests has to be put first and the only sensible option was to cancel the meeting.
We hope to re-schedule Martin's visit for the near future and apologise for any inconvenience caused by the cancellation.
Eccles RA wishes to congratulate our Honorary Life Vice President, Frank Hannah, on being awarded a MBE in the Queen's New Year's Honours List. Frank's accolade is in recognition of his services to sport and is just reward for his commitment and support to the national game over 70 years.
Anthony Moore has stepped up from his position as Vice Chairman to become Acting Chairman of Eccles RA for the remainder of the season, following the resignation of Tony Blair from the Association.

This month, in our final meeting of 2009, our traditional Christmas Quiz led by George Fawkes (ably assisted by Steve Welch) will be held on Thursday 3 December.
